You probably already know the story about what happended to my car
(I still thank God I'm safe and sound) But if not, read about it here.

WOW, as I sit here typing this message to you, I am
reflecting today on how much I am blessed everyday.

I don't know what you may believe, but for me, God
(or whatever name you may call a higher entity than us)
absolutely loves me and has protected me all my life.

Nothing is guaranteed, and everything could change
in the blink of an eye. Let me tell you what happened.

The other night I was driving home on the 405 freeway at
about 10pm coming from Long Beach, CA. It is about
an hour drive with no traffic and I've made the trip
many times over the years.

Now if you've know anything about Los Angeles, you
know that we all drive much faster than the posted
speed limit of 65mph, and most people drive about
75-80mph average when there is no traffic.

Picture this. It's late at night, slightly foggy
since I'm near the beach, and I'm driving along on the
freeway in my SUV. Traffic isn't too bad and is moving
along rapidly.

Now if you are like me, you can probably guess that
I will usually listen to some self improvement or
motivational cds, or else some music whil driving.
I like to get productive GROWTH TIME when I can, and
driving in the car is the perfect opportunity for
improving yourself.

So I've got a motivational cd playing and I'm just
flying along with everyone else. Suddenly I hear
this loud BANG and THUD sound from the rear drivers
side of the car.

Well, I always try to practice defensive driving, so I
usually try to leave an escape route in case something
unexpected happens by knowing where other cars are in
proximity to me and not getting boxed in a tube.

I started to swerve to the right to avoid what I thought
was somebody hitting me (at 80mph), and I looked into
my drivers side rearview mirror and saw all these sparks
and some big metallic thing tumbling on the freeway.

I regained control and immediately started to pull over
to the side of the freeway and I thought to myself,
"Aw Man, did I hit somebody or did somebody hit me?"

I figured that they would pull over as well so we could
suss things out. But besides some cars behind me swerving
to avoid me, no one pulled over at all.

I thought that was very strange and I waited a little
while but nothing, so I pulled back onto the freeway.
I kept smelling a strong gas odor and had to roll down
my windows and I prayed, "please, just get me home".

You see, I was still at least 50 miles from home and
that gas smell was kicking. As you can imagine, I kept
looking in my rearview mirror for any signs of fire
and I stayed in the right-hand lane just in case I had
to do a quick dive. I was ready, with my hand poised
on the seat belt buckle, ready to snap it if I had to.

You know I was determined that there will be no
"Kentucky Fried Khaliq" on the menu tonight.

Anyway, I finally made it back home (praise God) and I
looked at the rear drivers side to see the damage and
to my surprise, there wasn't any sign of a collision.

I looked all around it and nothing, so I looked under
the vehicle because I could still smell gas strongly.

Let me tell you that what I saw was shocking. the whole
bottom and front part of my gas tank was ripped apart and
all crushed and crumpled up. Smashed to Smithereens.

Imagine my surprise to see a tank inside the gas tank
and it was crumpled too and leaking a bit. Gas was
dripping down my driveway. I dipped my finger into it
to be sure it was gas, and yes it definitely was gas.

I ask you, "how lucky was I to make it back home safe?".

When I drove it to the repair shop, the guy looked at it and
said "WHOA - hey man, if I was you, I would tow this
back home and not drive it a second longer. You're lucky
because it could easily catch fire or BLOW UP in this
almost 100 degree heat". I chose to leave it and have
them look at it on Monday.

Anyway, I'm truly thankful and thoughtful. I am blessed.
